The Kids’ Cancer Project is celebrating its most successful Golf Day ever, with a record $102,000 raised at last Friday’s NSW Spring Golf Day at St Michael’s Golf Club in Little Bay.

Some 32 teams – also a record – made their way out onto the course for a cause. Each of the teams, tied to Corporate Partners of The Kids' Cancer Project, played a hand in helping to raise the six-figure sum via ticket purchases, raffle tickets, live auction entries and more.

At the conclusion of play, each of the teams were treated to a clubhouse lunch and talks from The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Head of Partnerships Patrick Phibbs, CEO Owen Finegan, along with Lisa Christy, whose son Ben tragically passed due to a Wilm’s Tumour in 2006.

Telling her story within The Kids’ Cancer Project’s latest Spring Newsletter, Lisa emotionally detailed her experiences to those in the room, while conveying her optimism for the future, made so by the advancements in childhood cancer research.

“With all the advancements in the last 20 years, I often think that if we’d had today’s treatments back then, we could have saved Ben. He’d still be here with us, in our family photos, not just the memories we hold onto,” she says.

That’s why research is such a passion of mine, not only to find cures, but also to improve treatments and reduce the devastating long-term effects children face. The impacts of childhood cancer are far-reaching and lifelong, so investing in research is critical.

"The real difference to kids with cancer and their families will come through research. Investment in better treatments, smarter technologies, and reducing side effects is what will save lives.

“I have no doubt that if those advances had been available, we’d be telling a very different story about Ben today. That’s why it’s so important to keep pushing forward, so that in 15 or 20 years other families won’t have to share the same story of loss.”

The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Head of Partnerships, Patrick Phibbs, says the entire day was simply phenomenal.

“I would like to thank each and every one of the sponsors, partners and teams involved in making this our biggest and best Golf Day ever. Without you, none of this would be possible.

“Not only is $102,000 a record total for a Golf Day, hosted by The Kids’ Cancer Project, it is the sum equivalent to what it costs to fund a comprehensive, long-term follow-up program for 20 children who have completed cancer treatment, ensuring they receive the necessary ongoing medical care and psychological support.

“Golf Days are all about driving for change. With outcomes like this, our dream of no child dying from cancer will become a reality sooner rather than later.”

The Kids’ Cancer Project wishes to thank our wonderful sponsors for making this year’s golf day such a success, including Refreshment Cart sponsors TomKat Roofing; Hole in One Challenge sponsors RONDO; Sydney Wyde for sponsoring Nearest the Pin; Hole Sponsors –Express Glass, Hive Marketing, Cross Group, and Neighbourlyand Prize Sponsors Bromic, Better Beer, The Meat Tray Co., and Veriu

Finally, a big thank you to Wild Golf for supplying the golf towels that rounded out the event.
