The Better Challenge, powered by Betta, is a community fundraising challenge that encourages Australians to get active for 90km during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September – all while helping to raise vital funds for childhood cancer research.
Every September since 2021, workplaces, families, schools, individuals and communities have committed to walking or running 3km and helping to make a difference by supporting better treatments, better outcomes and a better future for the 90 Aussie kids who will be diagnosed with cancer every month.
The Kids’ Cancer Project has helped to raise over $2 million for childhood cancer research through the Better Challenge since its launch, and we can’t wait for you to join thousands of other Aussies in taking part with this year’s challenge.
Together, we can help to make lasting difference for kids with cancer who just deserve better.
The Better Challenge is incredibly flexible, inclusive and personal with no single location, finish line or required level of fitness to get involved.
You can choose to run or walk as much or as little per day as you’d like with the goal of reaching 90km by the end of September to support the 90 families who will be told throughout the month that their child has cancer.
It’s not about being the fastest or the fittest; it’s about doing something meaningful with purpose in helping to raise funds for childhood cancer research.
Every kilometre, every step, every shared story and every dollar raised connects to something bigger – funding groundbreaking childhood cancer research that helps fund better outcomes, better treatments and a better future for kids with cancer.
It’s incredibly easy to get involved with just three simple steps.
First, sign up online and create your fundraising page. You can fill out all the information and your reasons for support and even connect your Strava to track your kilometres!
You can sign up by yourself but the best way to do it is alongside your workplace, your friends, family or community – launching a team or organisational challenge together and seeing who can go better throughout the month of September!
Once you’re signed up, it’s time to spread the word and share your fundraising page across social media, your group chats and office email chains.
Then it’s all down to September and reaching 90km by the end of the month! That’s just 3km a day of walking or running. You can do it while getting a coffee, stretching the legs over your lunch break, or dominating at your local running event.
There’s no minimum fitness level of fundraising experience required to sign-up to the Better Challenge. All you need is a determination to get involved and a willingness to help create a better future for children with cancer.
Every person who signs up for the Better Challenge helps to drive awareness, conversation and ultimately funding for childhood cancer research through The Kids’ Cancer Project.
As Australia’s leading independent funder of childhood cancer research, The Kids’ Cancer Project is solely dependent on the generosity and support of its community in continuing its impact on childhood cancer – having committed over $76 million to research since its foundation and helped survival rates grow from 55% to 87%.
Childhood cancer remains the leading disease-related cause of death for Australian children and research is vital to improving the treatments and long-term impacts that many children face after their cancer diagnosis.
Funds raised through the Better Challenge helps the range of researchers that The Kids’ Cancer Project supports continue working towards safer, more effective and less harmful treatments for kids with cancer – and a better future.
Sign up, start your challenge and get ready to get moving for kids with cancer! Whether you walk or run, every step helps fund life-saving research and creates hope for the 90 families and children who will be diagnosed with cancer every month.
Simply head to betterchallenge.org.au or email fundraising fundraising@tkcp.org.au if you have any other questions about how to get involved.
This September, challenge yourself to do something better.
Because kids with cancer deserve nothing less.
