Over 2,000 students dressed up as pirates at Riverbank Public School to raise funds for Pirate Day.

Ahoy! The Kids’ Cancer Project’s annual Pirate Day fundraising campaign has once again demonstrated the incredible power of community, creativity and generosity, with supporters across Australia raising more than $52,000 to help fund vital childhood cancer research.

Through donations, workplace fundraisers, school activities and community events, more than 1,100 donors got behind the cause with over 125 fundraisers helping to collect funds to support better treatments and find cures for children with brain cancer.

This year's event saw supporters embrace the pirate spirit in imaginative ways, from dress-up days and treasure hunts to workplace challenges and school-based activities – highlighted best by the world record plank attempt by Riverbank Public School.

Among the standout fundraisers were PAC ELC, which raised an impressive $3,618, and Tangalooma Island Resort, which contributed $3,338.

The Brain Tumour Research Team from The Kids Research Institute Australia also exceeded expectations by raising over $3,000 while Durban Landscaping Group and WezzyCruze also contributed over $2,000.

Kimberley Chapple, Head of Campaigns at The Kids Cancer Project, thanked everyone who took part in this year's event.

"Pirate Day is always such a fun, community-focused event and one of the most enjoyable campaigns on our calendar," she said.

"It's wonderful to see people get so creative with their pirate costumes, fundraising activities and celebrations, all while helping to raise awareness and vital funds for childhood cancer research.

"Every donation, every dress-up and every conversation helps bring us closer towards our vision of all children surviving their diagnosis and thriving after their treatment.”

All funds raised through Pirate Day help The Kids' Cancer Project invest in bold scientific research dedicated to improving outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer, with a particular focus on brain cancer as part of Brain Cancer Awareness Month in May.

On behalf of all at The Kids' Cancer Project, thank you to every pirate, fundraiser, donor and supporter who helped make Pirate Day a success.
