The Kids' Cancer Project celebrate another successful golf day at Brookwater Golf and Country Club in Queensland

The Kids’ Cancer Project was pleased to celebrate a successful Queensland Autumn Golf Day, raising over $36,000 for childhood cancer research.

Held at the iconic Brookwater Golf and Country Club, The Kids’ Cancer Project was delighted to be joined by a number of its corporate partners and donors for the event which was filled with plenty of laughs, on-course talent, and meaningful impact.

After hours of fun on course in the morning, guests enjoyed a wonderful lunch with the opportunity to hear from childhood cancer family ambassador Kyle Swain, who has been driven to making a difference for the charity after his daughter Matilda was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Kyle has been a staunch advocate and fundraiser for The Kids’ Cancer Project, and his emotional interview alongside CEO Owen Finegan reflecting on the 211 consecutive days in which one parent spent in hospital, was a raw reminder of the way in which cancer impacts a whole family and community.

The Kids' Cancer Project CEO Owen Finegan speaks with Kyle Swain about his experience as a father of a childhood cancer patient.

Guests were moved by Kyle’s transparent and honest insights with his eldest son Jock also in the room. Successful auction and raffle item winners took the incredible step of donating their prizes back to the Swain family, including a Brisbane Racing Club ticketing and hospital voucher and a virtual golf voucher donated by Birdies Bayside – a sign of the empathy, support and commitment by The Kids’ Cancer Project’s community to make a difference for those who have been impacted by childhood cancer.

“I’m pleased to have celebrated another successful golf event alongside The Kids’ Cancer Project’s corporate partners and donors,” CEO Owen Finegan says. “It is always humbling to see the generosity and continued support of those who know the impact of what their money can do for the three Aussie kids who sadly pass away every week from cancer.

“I’d especially like to extend my thanks to Kyle and his family for their time, honesty and continued involvement in our charity.

"We have seen firsthand through his dedication to the cause the difference that one person can make – as well as the necessity in finding better outcomes through investment into childhood cancer research.

“Thank you to all who attended the event and continue to support the work of The Kids’ Cancer Project through their involvement and participation.”

The Kids’ Cancer Project would like to extend its thanks to Adam Blythe and Brookwater Golf and Country Club for their incredibly generous support of the event, Tempus Media for their media support on the day, as well as hole sponsors Express Glass, Everything Steel, Girvan and Precise Air, and major prize donors, Lina Rooftop, Oasis Cruises, Brisbane Racing Club, Rydges Southbank and Merse Wellness.

The successful winners from the day were Taking Care of Business – a team from Bayside Plasterboard – but the real winners were all who attended and helped to make a difference for the future of Australian childhood cancer research.
