More than a challenge: Why the Better Challenge exists

2026-07-09

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, which also means the return of The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Better Challenge. Over the 30 days, run or walk 90km for the 90 Aussie children diagnosed with cancer during the month.

The Better Challenge gives people like you a way to make a difference for children and families facing childhood cancer. Whether you choose to walk or run, every kilometre and dollar helps contribute to a better future where more children survive cancer with fewer long-term side effects.

Feel better, move better and do better together. Finding your kilometres is easier than you think. Take a lunchtime walk, get off the bus a stop early, walk the dog for an extra lap or swap a short drive for a walk. Small changes to your daily routine soon add up, helping you feel better while making a difference for kids with cancer.

Your support helps fund innovative research for childhood cancer treatments that are often underfunded and overlooked. Many treatments are originally developed for adults, meaning side effects can be harsh on growing bodies. When you raise money for the Better Challenge, you help us fund treatments designed for children that are not only more effective but kinder.

This September, let’s get moving and do better together to make a real difference for kids when they need it most.
