35 teams took on a gruelling 50km rowing challenge in support of The Kids’ Cancer Project and the Mark Hughes Foundation. Together, they didn't just surpass the event's fundraising goal of $150,000—they delivered something far greater. They showed that when ordinary people unite behind an extraordinary cause, they can help change lives by raising awareness and an incredible $247,19 for life-saving research.
The kilometres were tough, but the motivation was simple: to create a future where more children, young people and families have hope through better treatments, better outcomes and ultimately, cures.
Among those taking on the challenge was The Kids' Cancer Project CEO, Owen Finegan, rowing alongside his Friday 400 community from Maroubra.
"While the numbers are extraordinary, it is the spirit behind them that leaves the greatest impression. Friends became teammates. Strangers became supporters. Families stood side by side. A community pushed through the challenge not for personal achievement, but for children, young adults and families they may never meet.”
The Kids’ Cancer Project and the Mark Hughes Foundation share a belief that together we can change the future of cancer by funding pioneering research that improves treatments and saves lives. Watching our community unite for a second year is truly inspiring, and I'm deeply grateful to everyone who has helped make this event such a success.
This 50km rowing challenge has brought together an extraordinary community that has now raised almost $390,000 over the past 15 months. Every conversation, every donation and every person involved makes a difference, giving children and young Australians with cancer hope for a brighter, healthier future.
The success of the Friday 400 Challenge is a powerful reminder that one person can make a difference and what can be achieved when a community comes together with generosity, determination and a shared purpose.
To every rower, volunteer, donor, sponsor and supporter—thank you. You have shown that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when united behind a cause bigger than themselves. Your commitment is helping accelerate research, create hope for families and because communities like Friday 400 continue to stand together, there is every reason to believe that a future beyond cancer is possible.
