2025 will mark ten years of fundraising for The Kids’ Cancer Project by the Ku Ring Gai Netball Association on Crazy Hair and Sock Day.
Adorning their silly socks and loony locks for the last decade, the North Sydney-based Association have managed to raise over $30,000 in that time, the equivalent to what it costs to support long-term clinical trial monitoring for up to 30 children.
Hosting their Crazy Hair and Sock Day earlier in 2025 than the majority of the other NSW Associations, the Ku-Ring Gai community dug deep once more, raising over $3,000!
The Association’s Marketing Manager, Hugo Lamb, says that great weather made for a spectacular day underpinned by community spirit and colour across the courts. The attendance of The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Campaigns Coordinator, Claire Welch, was a welcome boost.
“The day was filled with sunshine and smiles, but the highlight was seeing so many creative and colourful hairdos and socks on court, the excitement of our NetSetGO players who joined in for the first time, and the generosity shown at our donation points,” he says.
“The Kids’ Cancer Project funds life-saving research into childhood cancers, which leads to better treatments and brighter futures. It is also a fun, inclusive way for the netball community to come together and make a real difference beyond the court.
After ten years’ worth of fundraising, Hugo and the team have a few ideas on how to make the day a success! He even decided to share them with us.
“Our biggest piece of advice is to start promoting early and use your online platforms well; social media, newsletters, and a website can help build excitement.
“On the day, we recommend having card readers or visible QR codes to make donating as easy as possible. And finally, make it fun! The more engaged your community is, the more successful your fundraiser will be.”
