The Kids’ Cancer Project is now accepting Expressions of Interest for its $1.875 million Project Grant Round for 2026-27 as the charity continues to improve outcomes for patients suffering from low-survival paediatric cancers.
Forming part of the charity’s wider Research Strategy that runs until 2029, five successful projects will be granted up to $375,000 total for a maximum of three years.
Funding is intended to support clearly defined research projects with a realistic pathway to translation, implementation or measurable impact.
The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Head of Research Dr Justine Stehn says while survival rates are improving, there are still childhood cancers with little-to-no treatment options that require immediate intervention.
"This latest funding round will look to address unmet need in the childhood cancer research space by investing in projects of the utmost scientific quality,” she says.
“Aligning with our 2024-29 Research Strategy, the robust governance process overseen by our Research Advisory Committee will ensure we fund the best and brightest projects that will make a difference for kids with cancer sooner.
“We welcome applications from eligible Australian researchers and look forward to reviewing each of them in due course.”
In order to be eligible, projects must be administered by an Australian research organisation, focus on a childhood or AYA cancer (or molecular subtype) with a less than 50% survival rate, and align with a The Kids’ Cancer Project research pillar – Discover, Translate or Support.
Expressions of interest will close on Wednesday 18 February 2026, with those shortlisted for further application to be notified on Friday 20 March 2026. The projects successful in receiving funding will then be announced on Monday 29 June 2026.
