Better together: how Betta turned teamwork into impact

2026-08-31

When Betta and BSR Group announced its partnership with The Kids’ Cancer Project at its National Conference in Perth last year, there was an immediate sense of excitement among its stores across the country.

“We just knew we had to be part of the Better Challenge,” says Jody from Betta in Gatton, Queensland. “Everybody was excited to get involved. There was so much hype around it.”

That excitement quickly translated into action, with BSR Group employees across the country taking on the Better Challenge and raising an incredible $70,000 for childhood cancer research.

Bringing teams together for a shared purpose

For Betta stores, Better Challenge became more than a fundraising activity. It gave teams an opportunity to work towards a shared goal and bring a little friendly competition into the workplace.

As the proud naming rights partner of the 2026 and 2027 Better Challenges, Betta is helping make an even bigger impact for children with cancer.

It was great to see the camaraderie that happened within our own team,” says Aaron from Betta in Gatton.

Better Challenge brings people together to get active and challenge themselves to walk or run 90km for the 90 Aussie kids diagnosed with cancer every month and raise vital funds for childhood cancer research.

“We all got involved, and it became a bit of an in-house competition which helped to keep each one of us accountable to doing our 90km,” Jody says.

For Liz from the Betta store in Narooma, New South Wales, the team set out with a modest goal but quickly found they could achieve much more together.

We started with a small goal and ended up overachieving that, and I’m really proud of what my team and I managed to achieve for The Kids’ Cancer Project.

Moving for something that matters

Better Challenge gave Betta teams a way to connect their customers and local communities to fundraising for something that matters

“We are all deeply embedded in our communities,” says Liz. “It’s such a natural partnership and our community can give back to an organisation that is changing lives of life for kids with cancer.”

After seeing what they could achieve together last year, Betta are excited to go even further in the 2026 Better Challenge.

It pushes you more to keep moving. You're raising funds for a really good cause, and knowing you’re helping change kids’ lives by fundraising within the community is enormous.
