Youth Cancer Awareness Month, or YCAM, is during April, raises awareness regarding the rising and poorly understood national health challenge that affects the entire sector.
Since the 1980s, youth cancers are up 50%. There’s been no improvement in the sarcoma survival rate over four decades, and a youth cancer diagnosis costs $1.3 million.
YCAM 2026 focuses on problem recognition, building national understanding that youth cancer is real, rising and different. This awareness work benefits the entire sector as it lays the groundwork for improved funding, research investment and policy attention for all cancers affecting young Australians.
“Youth Cancer Awareness Month is a wonderful initiative focused on ensuring the general public is made aware of the strain these insidious diseases have on patients and the health sector in general,” says The Kids’ Cancer Project CEO, Owen Finegan.
“The Kids’ Cancer Project is committed to changing outcomes for Australian youth cancer patients by funding vital research across the entire cancer continuum, ensuring they can not only survive, but thrive.”
