The Kids’ Cancer Project is celebrating the efforts of its Bondi to Bronte fundraisers and their commitment to funding childhood cancer research in the wake of the Eastern Suburbs swim last week.
757 fundraisers took to a cold and windy Bondi Beach set the scene for the iconic two-kilometre swim. Not only did they complete their swim in some of the toughest conditions seen in years, they also managed to raise a combined total of over $35,000 for childhood cancer research!
The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Head of Community Fundraising, Julia Bigland, says she is delighted with the efforts of each fundraiser.
“On behalf of The Kids’ Cancer Project, I’d like to thank each and every one of our incredible Bondi to Bronte fundraisers,” she says.
“We are so grateful for the opportunity to be Bondi to Bronte’s official charity partner, and to cheer on so many people who support childhood cancer research. While the finish line is the goal for each participant, all of our fundraisers were already champions before they hit the water.
“Thank you all so much again for your support. We’ll see you in 2026!”
The $35,000 raised is the equivalent of what it costs to support long-term clinical trial monitoring for up to 30 children, ensuring ongoing assessments and timely interventions throughout the trial.
Our highest fundraiser for the event was Simon Ravindran, who managed to raise some $5,886 all on his own!
Ravindran says his desire to dig deep comes from wanting to help parents forever changed by a chilling diagnosis.
"I have 4 children and have been fortunate enough not to have had a run in with cancer so far. If any of my children were diagnosed with a cancer of any kind, I would want options. I think it's important to be a part of that journey to develop better treatments for those facing such challenges,” he says.
“I cannot bear to think what parents go through when they first hear that their child has been diagnosed with cancer. I want to help so that parents can have confidence that that their child will be okay."
The Kids’ Cancer Project additionally wishes to thank the entire Bondi to Bronte team for their support and commitment of childhood cancer research. We truly cherish our partnership and the meaningful impact we create together.
