Auskick clubs across Western Australia and beyond are encouraged to sign up and suit up for The Kids’ Cancer Project’s annual SuperKids SuperHeroes Round to help raise funds for vital childhood cancer research.
In May each year, Auskick clubs power up and turn into superheroes by turning their Auskick session into something super – with every kick and every goal helping support the three Australian children who are diagnosed with cancer every day.
The annual fundraiser was originally founded by the Kane family in honour of their son Declan, who passed away in 2017 from an aggressive cancer called neuroblastoma.
What began as a personal tribute has grown over the years to now include hundreds of Auskick clubs throughout Western Australia in partnership now with WA Football – bringing communities together to raise vital funds for childhood cancer research.
Through their unwavering dedication and boundless enthusiasm, SuperKids SuperHeroes, the clubs and community sponsors alike, have successfully raised over $445,000. Every dollar raised goes towards the work of The Kids’ Cancer Project in helping scientists develop kinder and more effective treatments for children with cancer and ultimately continue to improve survival rates towards 100%.
The initiative continues to expand every year, with The Kids’ Cancer Project’s vision to see participation from communities nationwide – allowing greater funds to be invested into science that will make a lasting difference to the future for kids with cancer.
“Every year, we’re deeply encouraged by the passion and commitment of families, kids and the clubs who get behind SuperKids SuperHeroes,” says Julia Bigland, Head of Community Fundraising at The Kids’ Cancer Project.
“We’d encourage every club in Western Australia to get behind this wonderful idea and help make a difference for the kids and families who continue to be impacted by cancer. By signing-up, you’re directly helping fund the research that gives kids the best possible chance at a better future – all while taking part in something fun!”
