Family devastated by kids’ cancer attempt record

You can join the de Kort family as they form a giant human pineapple in a bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records!

In October 2017, Alana de Kort was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a cancerous tumour that typically grows in or around the bones. In a ten month stretch she endured 16 rounds of chemotherapy and 16 rounds of radiotherapy to combat the disease.

But sadly in July 2018, one week before her fifteenth birthday, Alana lost her battle leaving her family truly devastated. Now they are calling for as many people as possible to join them to honour Alana’s memory and help them raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.

“Everyone who knew Alana, knew she loved all things pineapple,” said Alana’s brother Jake. “I was determined to do something to celebrate her life, so naturally it would have to have a pineapple theme.”

Jake eventually came up with the idea to attempt a world record to get as many people together to make the shape of a pineapple to honour his sister.

“I’d love to have 1,000 people participate in our Be a Pineapple record attempt,” he said. “Registrations close on Sunday 8 March 2020 so it’s not too late for people to put their name down to join us.”

“As a family we are passionate about raising awareness of childhood cancer and believe spreading awareness will lead to greater support for research,” said Jacqui, Alana’s mum.
