Proud to lead NSW Swifts in 2019

Netball NSW announce new club captain Maddy Proud for the 2019 Suncorp Netball season, plus that they will continue to give their best to kids with cancer.

NSW Swifts mid-courter Maddy Proud has been elevated from the club's leadership group to the role of club captain for the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season.

Proud, who has over 70 elite netball games to her name and represented Australia at Fast5 and underage levels, is entering her third season with the club.

The news coincides with Netball NSW’s charity partnership announcement with The Kids’ Cancer Project for the eleventh consecutive year, with 2019 marking the fifth anniversary of Crazy Hair & Sock Day; the opportunity for Associations across the state to raise funds for kids’ cancer research.

On 1 June 2019 courts will be awash with colour as players, umpires, coaches and fans unite wearing silly socks and whacky wigs, all for the price of a gold coin.

Tim Underwood, General Manager – Commercial and Corporate Services at Netball NSW is delighted that the netball community is right behind such an important cause.

“Our partnership with The Kids’ Cancer Project is important to the NSW Swifts,” said Underwood. “We are committed to making 2019 bigger and better. Our netball community is engaged, inclusive and supportive so I have no doubt that together we will make it happen.”

Owen Finegan, CEO of The Kids’ Cancer Project said with the ground swell of support that has been building over the past few years he’s hoping for 100 Associations to register for Crazy Hair & Sock Day 2019 to collectively raise over $100,000 to find kinder, more effective treatments for children diagnosed with cancer.

“We are incredibly excited to be partnering with Netball NSW once again,” he said. “The women representing the Swifts are not only wonderful ambassadors for kids with cancer, they’re also incredible role models for girls across the State.”
